Concussion Training

February 5, 2017

Attention CYSL Coaches:  There has been a change in Ohio Law

ALL CYSL Volunteer Soccer Coaches must complete “Concussion in Sports – What You Need to Know” Training before any practice sessions for the 2013 Season

THE NEW LAW

The State of Ohio has a new law to educate the public and protect children who sustain head injuries while competing in youth sports. The new law is effective April 26, 2013 and it requires ALL coaches, officials, and referees to complete a 20 minute course every three years to assist in recognition and treatment of concussions youth athletes. The new law required the State of Ohio & Department of Health to approve an online course for Coaches. AND, Ohio Law now requires a player who sustains a concussion to have written permission from a health care provider before they can return to play. It is a criminal offense for a Coach to not have this course completed and the league to have a copy of their Training Certificate on file.

The Training is Common Sense and takes about 25 minutes online

The Video has 5 pre-test questions

It is then a video of a doctor explaining concussions, treatment and return to play. There is a 5 question post-video test. By clicking the link below you will go to the training page. Register your information and click “buy the course.” There is no charge or even a credit card required. You will then be able to print out your Certificate.
